In November of 1888, the company Christiania Cement Ltd was registered with the purpose "production, marketing and sales of Cement, Lime and Stone from the farms of Slemmestad, Royken". In 1892, Christiania Portland Cement Ltd was established at the same location, and 25 years later the plants at Dalen in Brevik and at Kjøpsvik i Nordland was started.
In 1968, the three plants were merged and Norcem Ltd was established.
I 1987, Aker and Norcem merged with Norcem as the financial fundament and in 1996, Norcem became a part of Scancem. Today, the name Norcem is synonymous with Norwegian cement production.
During spring of 1999, HeidelbergCement bought Scancem, and thus Norcem became a German company.
